Traditional Thailand – Phetchaburi city (from Hua Hin area).

 

Phetchaburi is an old small city with very long history, mentioned in the 1st stone inscription from the Sukhothai period. Its located about 70 km from Hua Hin to the north.

Name Phetchaburi means city of diamonds.

Its place for travelers who like history, beautiful architecture and would like to see traditional Thailand.

  • The first stop at the hidden gem – Luang Cave.

It’s one of the most impressive cave shrines and a favourite of King Rama IV when he was a monk. The most amazing thing is the sun shower. There are several spots in the cave. Its generally happens between 9am and noon. From February to April the light illuminates the main Buddha image.

There is an interesting fact also: one of the scenes of the movie «Bangkok Dangerous» with Nicholas Cage, was filmed in this amazing cave.

  • The next stop at the Phra Nakhon Khiri.

It is a historical park in Phetchaburi city on a hill overlooking the city with have an amazing view. The name Phra Nakhon Khiri means Holy City Hill, but locals know it better as Khao Wang, meaning hill with palace.

The park consists of three building groups on the three peaks of the 92 m hill. On the western side is the palace with adjoining structures. On the middle is a big chedi named Phra That Chom Phet. The eastern peak houses the Wat Phra Kaeo, the royal temple, built in similar fashion to the Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok. The whole complex was built as a summer palace by King Mongkut, with construction finished in 1860.

  • The third stop is:

Phra Ram Ratchaniwet (Ban Pun Palace).

Its one of the most beautiful palaces in typical early 20thcentury European style in Thailand.

Construction of Phra Ram Ratchaniwet began in 1910 and was finished in 1916. It was modelled after the Palace of the German Kaiser Wilhelm. Unfortunately, the King Chulalongkorn the Great (Rama V) did not get to use the Palace, as he died in 1910. After the death of King Chulalongkorn, King Rama VI used Palace to meet foreign state visitors.

The Palace is an very elegant two storey building with high windows from floor to ceiling and a massive dark colored roof set in a very well kept garden. The interior of the Palace is all about of luxury and grandness.
